(Des Moines, IA) -- Emergency responders rescued 29 cats trapped in a van under extreme heat conditions.
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa, along with local police, discovered the cats without food, water, or proper ventilation. This low air led to dangerously high ammonia levels in the vehicle. Two cats were found with severe neck wounds and several others had raspatory and eye infections.
The 64-year old owner has been charged with three counts of animal neglect in connection with the case. The rescued cats are now receiving care at a shelter in Des Moines.
