(Iowa City, IA) -- A new plan being put together by Iowa City Community School District administrators would reduce class sizes while making better use of the district's buildings and staff.

The plan is called pairing, and it would see an existing elementary school's younger grades go to one school, while older grades go to another.

Iowa City Schools currently has 20 buildings with anywhere from 170 to 630 students, in class sizes of 14 up to 32 kids.

The new plan would more evenly distribute those students, and teachers.

District administrators hope to present the plan at one of this month's school board meetings.
