The current Harney Street "Market - to - Midtown" Bikeway in Omaha closes today as streetcar development and construction pick up.
Message boards are alerting bicyclists to the closure, and barricades are in place as bikeway removal is expected to take about a week.
The City of Omaha says the new permanent protected bikeway, going in as part of the streetcar project, will start at Turner Blvd. and will be on Farnam Street, crossing on 17th Street to Harney Street, and running to 10th Street.
The new bikeway, part of a comprehensive urban transportation development, will be on the opposite side of the street from the streetcar route.
