(Fort Dodge, IA) -- An outbreak of Mpox has been reported at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility.
Mpox Clade 2, also known as Monkey pox is a virus primarily spread by skin-to skin contact and can cause rashes, blisters, scabs, and flu-like symptoms.
According to the World Health Organization the symptoms can last 2-4 weeks or more if someone has a weak immune system.
The Iowa Department of Correctional Facilities says the facility is working closely with Health and Human Services and has begun enhanced sanitation and isolation efforts while the effected individuals receive care.
