(Iowa City, IA) -- The next court appearance for an Iowa City man who fled to Jordan with the help of his parents to avoid an attempted murder charge is September 13th.

Twenty-one year-old Ali Younes appeared in court Tuesday after voluntarily coming back to the U.S. last week.

He's accused of strangling a woman on the UI campus last year, and stealing her earrings.

Younes is being held at the Johnson County jail on a half-million dollar cash-only bond.

His parents were released on parole last week after serving just months of a five-year sentence for helping their son flee the country.
