(Des Moines, IA) -- The 2024 Des Moines Concours d'Elegance returned to downtown Des Moines for its annual exhibition and car show on Sunday. Over 150 classic and vintage cars were on display, including a 1910 REO Runabout, owned and fully restored by Tom Shore, the oldest car entered in the show.
"It shakes a lot, just image a very rough running lawnmower," Shore said.
Shore says he has owned the car since 2001, and that top speed for the the one-cylinder automobile is about 29 miles per hour.
"You don't find parts for these old ones," Shore said. "It was very complete when I bought it, but it was in rough shape. I had to restore everything, and then some parts I had to fabricate."
Ed Kasperbauer brought his 1978 Pontiac Firebird Formula, now equipped with a 350 engine. He says he purchased the car about a year and a half ago
"I like it, it's a really nice car and gets a lot of looks," Kasperbauer said, "it's great to take out on Saturday nights and on the weekends." He says he would like to get another one.
Cars were ranked and awarded in several different categories. Motorcycles were also part of the showing.
