(Des Moines, IA) -- Along with choosing elected representatives, Iowans will vote on two state constitutional amendments in November.
The first amendment clarifies that the lieutenant-governor becomes governor if a sitting governor resigns, dies or is removed from office. It also states that the new governor gets to appoint a new lieutenant-governor.
The second amendment officially lowers the voting age to 18, and permits 17-year-olds to vote in primaries if they'll be 18 by the general election. Those are the current voting rules, but they aren't in the state constitution.
The voting amendment also clarifies who can vote in Iowa, and under what conditions they can do so.
