(Rock Island, IL) -- Some Quad Cities residents may notice a slight odor and color to their water starting today.

The city of Rock Island is switching to free chlorine to treat drinking water while they undertake their annual hydrant flushing program.

Crews will flush fire hydrants beginning September 29th.

During that time, Rock Island residents could see some sediment or discoloration in their tap water.

The city recommends running the water for a minute or two to clear the line.
