A 21-year-old Des Moines man is facing charges, including eluding and reckless driving, for leading police on an early Wednesday morning chase that ended in a crash.
Des Moines Police originally responded to a report of drive-by shooting in the 1500 block of Guthrie Avenue around 3:48 a.m. on Wednesday. Zander Mortale was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed, leading officers on a pursuit. The chase ended on I-80 near Mitchellville when Mortale hit the median.
Police said after investigating the original call on Guthrie Avenue, no evidence of gunfire was located.
Mortale is currently in custody in the Polk County Jail.
