Driver Cited Going 118 In 65 Zone In Omaha. What's The Fine For That?

(Omaha, NE) -- A driver going 118 miles an hour in a 65 zone in Omaha is facing a big fine and likely higher car insurance rates.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports a deputy pulled the 19-year-old driver over, going 53 miles an hour over the speed limit on Fort Street just off I-680. The ticket includes a $349 fine.

Some of the commenters on the Sheriff's Facebook post wondered why the driver wasn't arrested or his car seized for going that fast. Others say the fine is not high enough to deter speeders.

One man suggested a judge should make the driver stand out along the road every day for a week with a sign around his neck. He doesn't say what the sign should say.
