(Butler County, IA) -- The Iowa D-O-T is receiving $68,662,000 in federal funds for reconstruction of the west mixmaster in West Des Moines. The funds come from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Mega Grant Program, and will go towards several improvement projects, including:

  • New flyover bridges from southbound I-25/80 to eastbound I-235 and to westbound I-80;
  • A new bridge on westbound I-235; and
  • An additional lane on eastbound I-235 between 50th Street and Valley West Drive.

Iowa U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is announcing the grant, saying it will enable the Iowa D-O-T to reduce congestion and increase navigability at the west mixmaster interchange connecting Interstate(s) 80, 35 and 235, where nearly one thousand crashes were reported between 2018 and 2022.
