Two West Nile Virus Deaths In Nebraska

(Grand Island, NE) -- Two people have died from West Nile Virus in Nebraska.

The Central District Health Department says two older adults from the central part of the state died due to West Nile infection this month.

An additional nine cases of the mosquito-borne illness have been confirmed in the Central Region.

As of September 14, 2024 the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services reports there have been 54 confirmed cases of West Nile Virus statewide.

But, until now, no deaths.

West Nile Virus is the most common mosquito borne virus in the U.S. according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Symptoms can include fever, headache, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash.
