(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- One of the suspects charged in the kidnapping and killing of a woman from Marion wants a judge to toss out information that the victim may have been pregnant around the time she was murdered.

During Friday's pretrial hearing, lawyers for McKinley Louisma argued that the pregnancy information would hurt his client during his trial.

The prosecution argues the pregnancy could be the motive for the killing.

Louisma is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Melody Hoffman in February.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that jury selection for Louisma’s trial will start October 31st, with testimony scheduled to begin November 4th.
