More Details About Two Sunday Night Shootings In Des Moines

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police are releasing more details about two separate shootings Sunday night that left two people hospitalized.

Police say the first investigation began at around 6:43 p.m. when a 24-year-old man showed up at the UnityPoint-Iowa emergency room with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Investigators discovered he was shot by his girlfriend through a bathroom door during an argument at a residence in the 500 Block of Walker Street; his injuries are non-life threatening.

His girlfriend, 19-year-old Dalia Mendiola, is being held in the Polk County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday, October 24th.

Police say the second victim, a 26-year-old man, showed up at MercyOne-Des Moines at around 7:08 p.m. with multiple gunshot wound to the legs but is expected to survive.

They say he was uncooperative, but investigators determined the scene of the shooting took place in the 1500 Block of 17th Street.
