Omaha Police To Get Additional Shoot / Don't Shoot Training

(Omana, NE) -- Omaha Police officers will get mandatory shoot / don't shoot training.

Police Chief Todd Schmaderer says in a press release the VirTra training system provides immersive, real-world simulations designed to reinforce critical judgment during use-of-force situations. This supplemental training underscores the department’s commitment to ensuring that officers are fully equipped to handle complex encounters while prioritizing the safety of the community and themselves.

“We take each officer-involved incident very seriously and are dedicated to providing our officers with the best training available,” says Chief Schmaderer in the press release. “This additional training will help our officers make split-second decisions with precision, ultimately contributing to the safety and trust within our community.”

There've been several officer-involved shootings in Omaha recently.
