Drought Deepens In Iowa, Illinois

(Undated) -- This week's U.S. Drought Monitor map shows an expansion of drought and near-drought conditions in Iowa and Illinois. Both states are either abnormally dry or in moderate or severe drought.

The most dry areas (severe drought) are in the western third and northeast quarter of Iowa and a large part of northern Illinois.

The National Weather Service in Iowa reports two daily record rainfall amounts for October 30th: 1.76" in Des Moines and 1.58" in Waterloo

The Des Moines total broke the previous record of 1.72" set in 1974. The Waterloo total broke the previous record of 1.21" also set in 1974.

The National Weather Service predicts highs in the 40s north to 50s south, with northwest winds around 15-25 mph and gusts to 30-35 mph.

Winds decrease tonight, evening temperatures will be in the 30s north to mid 40s south.

Forecasters are predicting another round of showers in Iowa Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

The National Weather Service-Quad Cities reports severe Drought (D2) has expanded along and north of the Highway 30 corridor, and extending into northeast Illinois.

Today's report does not include moderate to heavy rain Wednesday. More widespread, is possible next week.
