Iowa Drought Conditions Expand

(Undated) -- This week's U-S Drought Monitor shows Iowa's drought worsening. All of the state is either abnormally dry or in some level of drought. The western third and northeast quarter of Iowa are in severe drought. The report does not include the widespread 1-2 inch rainfall yesterday (Wednesday).

The National Weather Service reports two daily record rainfall amounts for October 30th: 1.76" in Des Moines and 1.58" in Waterloo

The Des Moines total broke the previous record of 1.72" set in 1974. The Waterloo total broke the previous record of 1.21" also set in 1974.

The National Weather Service predicts highs in the 40s north to 50s south, with northwest winds around 15-25 mph and gusts to 30-35 mph.

Winds decrease tonight, evening temperatures will be in the 30s north to mid 40s south.

Forecasters are predicting another round of showers Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
