(Des Moines, IA) -- Abortion rates in Iowa have decreased following the implementation of the state's fetal heartbeat law.

The rule bans abortions when cardiac activity is detected, which can be as early as six weeks into pregnancy.

Data from the Guttmacher Institute shows a 35% drop in clinician-provided abortions since August.

Planned Parenthood North Central States has reported a 64% decrease in abortions they've performed in Iowa, and a 159% increase in Iowans seeking care at their clinics outside Iowa compared to the two months prior to the law taking effect.
