(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Construction is underway on the new library on Cedar Rapids' west side.
Workers have started the process of excavating the new library's basement, with the building's structure to be constructed over the winter months. The area that will become the library's main parking lot has also been carved out.
Construction is expected to pick up in the spring of next year.
