(Ames, IA) -- Iowa is in the top ten nationwide when it comes to adult obesity. Iowa 4-H is launch a program to help improve numbers from an early age.
Sally Shaver-DuBois works with Iowa State University's extension of 4-H.
"We know at least a third of the kids in Iowa are overweight or obese," Shaver-DuBois says. "Those numbers are even higher for some of our minority populations."
She says obesity has negative effects.
"It puts a burden on people and their life expectancy and quality of life," Shaver-DuBois says.
Iowa 4-H has produced a curriculum encouraging healthier eating, more physical activity, and less screen time.
