(Johnson County, IA) -- The Johnson County Board of Supervisors is expected to adopt a resolution to support a new transit option when they meet Thursday.
A battery-powered commuter train system would convert the CRANDIC line into a regional transit option.
The system from Pennsylvania-based PopUp Metro would cost $5.7 million dollars to start-up, and $3.7 million to operate annually.
The lease would require the county to do nothing but supply drivers for the trains.
Another proposal to tear up the CRANDIC line and pave it over for buses is estimated to cost $90-million.
