(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A new Iowa law cracking down on school absenteeism has resulted in a significant drop in absentee rates in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.
The District says absentee rates are down from 36% to just 11% so far this school year.
The law notifies parents when their child misses 10% of classes, requires a mandatory meeting at 15%, and could involve the county attorney when absenteeism exceeds 20%.
