(Polk County, IA) -- A new deal between Polk County and the State Medical Examiner's Office is expected to save one million dollars annually.
The Polk County Board of Supervisors announced that the State of Iowa will now take over all autopsy services in the county; however, the county will still maintain a medical examiner's office. This deal comes after the office has struggled with understaffing and operating in an outdated facility. In addition to the estimated personal costs saved, the county will now not have to spend an additional 26 to 47 million dollars on a new facility.
