(Eddyville, IA) -- An Eddyville man remains missing after his boat hit pieces of concrete in the Des Moines River on Sunday.

Rescue crews spent a third day searching for 47-year-old Waylon Straube, who was one of two people thrown from the boat at the Bussey Bridge near Eddyville. Fifty-year-old Rosanne Benda was rescued shortly after the accident by other boaters.

Mahaska County Sheriff Russell Van Renterghem now considers the search for Straube a recovery effort. Sheriff Van Renterghem believes the search might have been avoided if the pair had been wearing life jackets.

The recovery effort for Straube continues this week.
