(Grimes, IA) -- The Grimes City Council has approved site plans for a new coffee shop and daycare center, part of a broader wave of development driven by the city’s rapid population growth.

"I'm happy to report that we will conduct a special census later this year to get an accurate population count," said Katie Lord, Economic Development Director for the City of Grimes. "We’ve been growing quickly, and that growing population needs additional services-including coffee and daycare."

Ziggi’s Coffee will be located on Gateway Drive, while the new daycare center is planned for Beaverbrook Boulevard. Two new housing developments on the southwest side of Grimes are also expected to attract additional businesses to the area.

"We anticipate some neighborhood commercial development to serve all of these new residents," Lord added. "You can imagine small strip centers or general services tailored to the community."

In addition to expanding residential services, Lord emphasized that the City of Grimes is also investing in tourism.

"We’re continuing to build ourselves as a tourism destination, thanks in large part to the city and our partner investors in the Hy-Vee Multiplex and other sports complexes in the community," she said.
