Des Moines Man Sentenced to up to 25 Years in Prison for Arson

(Des Moines, IA) -- A Des Moines man is sentenced to up to 25 years in prison for setting a fire that hurt two of his relatives.

38 year-old Otis Richardson entered an Alford plea, meaning the evidence would likely lead to a conviction, for first degree arson. As part of the plea, Richardson will be required to spend a minimum of 12 and a half years in prison for setting a fire at a home in Des Moines in December of 2023 while is grandmother and uncle were inside.

Richardson will also receive treatment for mental illness during his sentence.
