A Des Moines mother is sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for abandoning her children in life-threatening conditions.
Friends of 42-year-old Amanda Myers called police in December of 2023, believing two children were alone in a mobile home on SE 14th street.
Officers found a 7 and 6-year-old in the home that was unfit to live in, with no running water, heat, or food.
Myers was sentenced to two consecutive 10-year sentences.
