(Des Moines, IA) -- A dead body has been freed from a dam in the Des Moines River.
City Police say the body was then moved Monday morning to a safer position to complete the recovery. It was spotted by first responders Sunday night near the Women of Achievement Bridge in Des Moines.
A death investigation is underway but the identity of the person will be released after family is notified.
Police say the body may be connected to a report August 10th of a person seen in the river, though a search was unsuccessful.
Bobber Park, the Women of Achievement Bridge and connecting trails remain closed.
