(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The Linn County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved new zoning rules for nuclear energy and waste storage in rural areas.
The ordinance focuses on local land use, while the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission will continue to oversee safety standards. The Board says the new host community agreement ensures any financial burdens fall on the nuclear company and not on local taxpayers.
The new ordinance will be effective once it's published in the newspaper.
