(Moline, IL) -- It could still be years before we see Amtrak trains from Chicago pulling into downtown Moline.

Quad Cities lawmakers from several levels of government are celebrating the approval Friday of a $1.5-billion funding plan for public transit in Illinois, that includes $475-million in funding for QC passenger rail.

But securing funds is just the beginning.

Lawmakers say negotiations with Iowa Interstate Railroad over track upgrades still need to be completed, as well as securing federal and state regulatory approvals.
