(Des Moines, IA) -- A Des Moines man who pleaded guilty to shooting a woman is sentenced to up to 35 years in prison.

On Friday, 19 year-old Demonie Catrell Smith pleaded guilty to three felony charges related to the shooting, though the plea deal included dropping the original charge of attempted murder. Investigators say on March 10th, Smith was arguing with his girlfriend on Des Moines' north side when her sister, Shanice Perry, approached in her car. Smith fired multiple shots at the car using an AR-15 style rifle, three of which hit Perry in the back.

She was able to drive herself to Broadlawns hospital for treatment.
