Avian Flu Detected In Hamilton County Turkey Flock

(Hamilton County, IA) -- Bird flu has been detected in a commercial turkey flock in Hamilton County.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture says it's the ninth confirmed case of avian influenza detected in the state so far this year. The virus can be passed between wild birds, and can be deadly for domestic poultry like chickens and turkeys.

Producers who notice a spike in symptoms like lethargy, difficulty breathing, or a sudden increase in deaths is encouraged to contact a veterinarian and notify state officials as soon as possible.
