Study: Iowa 6th Safest State for New Year's Driving

(Iowa) -- A new study ranks Iowa among the top ten safest states for driving Near Year's driving.

Personal injury law firm AutoAccident.com analyzed National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day celebrations from 2014 to 2023 and found Iowa is the 6th safest state for drivers. Iowa averages 3.45 deaths per one million residents during New Year's, 50.67% lower than the national average of 6.99.

Iowa saw 11 traffic deaths over New Year's from 2014-2023. 100% of those traffic deaths were driving at the time of the fatal crash, making Iowa one of three states (in addition to Vermont and Wyoming) where no pedestrians were killed in New Year's traffic accidents.
