(Springfield, IL) -- Illinois is already setting records for most tornadoes in a year.
Weather officials say the state has experienced at least 147 tornadoes so far in 2026.
That breaks the previous record of 142 set two years ago.
Illinois also leads the country in tornadoes according to preliminary data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
