(Ankeny, IA) -- Three days of carnival rides, live music, and local food vendors gets underway today in Ankeny.
The popular Ankeny Summerfest is expected to attract large crowds to The District at Prairie Trail, located at 1500 SW Main Street, for the three-day festival that includes a carnival, live music, local food vendors, and more.
Jamie Anderson, Executive Director of Ankeny Summerfest, tells WHO Radio News there are a few new events for this year's event: "We've added our lip sync contest, so we're hoping people stop in and sign up the day of. There's no fee, and they can go up on stage and win a prize. And then our Your Professionals are hosting our Family Fun Night on Friday, July 10th."
Some of the highlights at this year's Ankeny Summerfest include:
- Family Fun Night - Friday from 4pm-8pm
- The Grand Parade - Saturday at 9am
- Live music - Friday from 4pm-11pm, Saturday from 1pm-11pm, Sunday from 1pm-9pm
- Lip Sync contest - Saturday from 11:15am-12:30pm
- Fireworks - Sunday at 9:30pm
A free shuttle will be providing rides from the DMACC Ankeny Campus, located at 2006 S Ankeny Boulevard, to the Summerfest entrance throughout the weekend starting half an hour before the festival begins to half an hour after the event closes each day.
