Sunday night car chase from Court Avenue to 42nd and University

Some Des Moines streets had cars speeding down at freeway speeds from the Court Avenue district all the way to 42nd and University Sunday night.  

Around 10:45pm, police began chasing a car south of Court Avenue. The vehicle sped over to Ingersoll Avenue at over 55 miles per hour with Des Moines Police in pursuit. During the chase, the vehicle went through residential neighborhoods from Ingersoll to University.

At 42nd and University, police stopped the car using a pit maneuver.  One person fled the car, while two others were arrested at gunpoint around 10:55pm. The third person was arrested shortly after that trying to get over a fence in a backyard a few houses away.  

A witness called police during the chase saying that someone threw a bag of marijuana out of the car at 4th and Court at the beginning of the chase. The suspect who fled also reportedly disposed of a gun before being apprehended.

Two men and a woman were arrested.  Names weren't immediately available.
