Scam calls from fake Polk County Deputy on rise

The Polk County Sheriff's Department is warning about a spike in scam phone calls recently, and they're releasing new details about the scam attempts.

The Sheriff's office says they're getting a number of complaints about a caller claiming to be "Polk County Deputy Kenneth Cook".

He gets very aggressive and orders the recipient to pay a $2-thousand dollar fine for failing to show up for jury duty or face arrest.

The Polk County Sheriff's office says there is no Deputy "Kenneth Cook."

The Sheriff's Department does not call people to collect fines or any other payments.

If you get a call from a "Deputy Cook" or other possible scammer demanding money, report it to the police.
