New Iowa Medical Marijuana Oil law begins process

June 19th is a red-letter day for anyone in Iowa who wants to use medical marijuana oil to treat chronic pain or deadly diseases.

"We now have the applications for the newly expanded Medical Cannabidiol registration card program on our website.  They are available for people to print them off and get them completed and to get a registration card for medical cannabidiol."

Randy Mayer of the Iowa Department of Public Health says you then need to take that form to your medical provider to fill out to qualify for the new expanded Iowa Medical Cannabadiol Oil law.

Mayer says a longer list of illnesses or conditions now qualifies for use of medical marijuana, "Cancers with chronic pain or vomiting or wasting, Multiple Sclerosis, AIDS or HIV, Krohn's Disease, ALS or any terminal illness with a probable life expectancy under a year and with severe chronic pain, Parkinson's Disease and, then, just other untreatable pain are the other conditions that qualify."

Mayer says they're in the process of licensing manufacturers and distributors of medical marijuana and expect to have those products available by late next year.
