Des Moines Marathon & Win Your Own Hot Air Balloon Ride!

Chris Burch of the IMT Des Moines Marathon joined us in the studio this morning just after the 8:30 news. It's time to get registered to be a participant.  There are some route changes this year, including the start/end line.  It will be at 4th & Court in downtown Des Moines.  There will be live music from The Nadas and more.  The average time for the Marathon is 4 and 1/2 hours.  The winning time is usually around 2 hours and 12 minutes.  The Des Moines Marathon is October 15th this year.  You can register for the race or to be a volunteer, as well as see a map of the course, at www.desmoinesmarathon.com.

Leila Rush rode in the WHO Radio hot air balloon this morning along with 25 other balloons over Des Moines.  She told us this morning where she landed and what time she landed.  We will be asking for those two pieces of information tomorrow morning...two people will win their very own hot air balloon ride during the National Balloon Classic in Indianola July 28th thru August 5th!  Plus, we'll have family four-packs of tickets to give away to the event thru July 31st.  Tune in to win!

I hope you had a chance to check out the pictures I sent of my trip with WHO Radio listeners to Banff, Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks.  We had a tremendous time!  I have a couple of videos I took of our people that were asked to participate in the Chuck Wagon BBQ.  I need to edit them before I can transfer them out of my phone!  Be watching for them on the Van and Bonnie Facebook page as well as the Van and Bonnie page of www.whoradio.com.  Holiday Vacations went above and beyond to get us home when the Chicago airport shut down due to weather conditions Friday night, even though they didn't cancel our flight until almost 11PM!  O'Hare had no openings this weekend, so Holiday rented a motor coach and bused us home Saturday morning!

This is one of the new $2.00 coins in Canada that glows in the dark!  These have just been put into circulation in Canada and they are very hard to find!  In fact, I asked everywhere we went  if they had one of these coins and couldn't get one.  However, one of our great travelers, Judy, did get one and she gave it to me!  What a great person!!!!  Our listeners are the best!  It's a picture of a lake with the mountains in the background and the aurora borealis above.  It's the aurora borealis that glows in the dark...pretty cool!

Tomorrow on Van and Bonnie, Senator Grassley joins us just after the 6:30 news.  Also, around 7:00AM, we'll be giving away those two hot air balloon rides and we have family four-packs of tickets for the National Balloon Classic in Indianola!

Have a wonderful day!

Bonnie
