Central Iowans meet, talk, eat at National Night Out

Thousands of Iowans were holding potlucks, eating ice cream and meeting their neighbors during last night's celebrations surrounding National Night Out.

The event was conceived as a way that neighbors could meet each other and the police, fire and other city services that serve them to bring about a better spirit of community.

In Beaverdale, the Beaverdale and Waveland Heights neighborhood groups held their event at Snookie's Malt Shop on Beaver Avenue.  Hundreds waited in line for an ice cream cone, while others talked to friends, made new friends, or took advantage of the chance to see the inside of a police cruiser, fire truck and city garbage truck.
