Six people arrested in Newton, Iowa drug bust

(Newton, Iowa)  Six people are facing charges in Jasper County, after a drug bust in Newton.

The Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday at 715 W. 4th St. N, and officers found numerous drugs, and related items, including heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, prescription pills, and drug paraphernalia.

Those arrested include:  Newton residents  24-year old Tyler Gilbert, 30-year-old Crystal Mendenhall, 41-year-old Jeffrey Waddell, 45-year-old William Filson, and 49-year-old Mary Jo Sliger.  

Sixty-one-year old Julie Waddell, of Colfax is also charged with drug possession.

Authorities say the warrant was executed in an expedited manner because of numerous heroin overdoses in Newton within the past week.

Tyler Gilbert and Crystal Mendenhall are accused of distributing heroin and other drugs in Newton.   They are both charged with five counts of drug possession and Violation of drug tax stamp.
