How to keep your live Christmas Tree fresh...online shopping nightmares

Chris Howell of Howell Christmas Tree Farm talked with us this morning about a variety of topics concerning live Christmas Trees, and he gave us a secret to keeping your live Christmas Tree fresh...how to keep that sap flowing.  You can hear his entire interview here...

Kathy Coady of Hope Ministries joined us in the studio this morning to talk about their "Scan Away Hunger" program.  She remarked how you could stop by their Hope Cafe any day of the week and see the many faces of homelessness.  They serve three meals a day every day to people that need help.  They have programs for homeless men, women and children as well.  It takes $1.85 to feed one meal...and when you scan the "plate" at your Hy-Vee Store, it will donate $1.85 to Hope Ministries.  You can scan the plate as many times as you wish.  100% of that money goes to feed the hungry and homeless here in Des Moines.  You can also give on their website at www.HopeIowa.org.  Today is "Giving Tuesday", so today would be a great day to help Hope Ministries.  Hope Ministries is now accepting Chrismas meal delivery reservations at 515-265-4277 or online at www.hopeiowa.org for those in need and elderly that cannot get out of the home.  You can hear the entire interview here...

I tried to some online shopping yesterday and finally decided to cancel the whole thing...Hear our horror stories here...

Operation Barnabas is partnering with Freedom Alliance for their Presents for Patriots program, adopting wounded soldiers and their families for Christmas.  They are collecting Target and Walmart gift cards along with monetary donations so that these adopted veterans can experience the joy in purchasing Christmas gifts for their families.  To make a donation, mail a tax deductible donation along with a Christmas card to:  Operation Barnabas, Attn: Linn Hayden, 405 NW Sturbridge, Ankeny, IA  50023.  All donations and Christmas cards will be distributed among five families.  Or, you can join them for their meeting on Thursday, December 14th at 7PM at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale.  They want to deliver everything to the families on December 16th.

Tomorrow on Van and Bonnie, we'll be having a little Christmas music on the program and we'll tell you where to see them in concert.  Plus, Johnston does not have a downtown and they are thinking about getting one!  We'll be talking to the Mayor.

Celebrate "Giving Tuesday"!

Bonnie
