Woman escapes injury in East DM house fire, but pet dies

An early morning fire forced police to close off part of East 29th Street during the Monday morning commute.

When firefighters arrived around 5:30 this morning, the home at 1708 East 29th was engulfed in flame.

Witnesses from several blocks away reported seeing flames, and fire crews said there were flames showing on at least two sides of the home.

Initial reports were that the woman who occupied the home said a kitchen fire got out of control.

Noone was injured, but it was reported that a family pet died in the fire.
