Maker of herbal memory booster to refund Iowans' money

(Des Moines, Iowa)  A company selling an herbal remedy, as a way to reduce memory loss, has paid the state of Iowa 35-thousand dollars, and has agreed to stop doing business in the state.

A Polk County Judge has ordered JGG Enterprises, and owner Joseph Grelock not to market the product "Intelllux" or any dietary supplement that involves claims of health benefits. The Iowa Attorney General's Office says the ads for product were not based on good science, and preyed on older Iowans.

The defendants deny liability, they'll give refunds to more than 180 Iowa consumers, and another 10-thousand to support consumer education.   The refunds for the supposed brain-boosting herbal pills will range from about $50 to $150.

The Consumer Protection Division will mail refund checks.
