Northeast Iowa officer-involved shooting UPDATE

The Bremer County Attorney's Office is releasing names of law enforcement officers, involved in an officer-involved shooting January 17th, 2018.  

They are:  Trooper Nathaniel Miller, Trooper Chris Forsyth, Trooper Ken Haut, Bremer County Deputy Glenn Beenblossom, Nashua Police Chief Travis Martin, Nashua Police Officer Benjamin Scholl, and Chickasaw County Sheriff's Deputy Adam Hanson.

Officers were called to the Love's Truck stop in Floyd, Iowa around 8:30 p.m. January 17th, on a report of a man holding a gun to his head in a vehicle.  

Before officers arrived, 29-year-old Jihad Merrick of Minneapolis, Minnesota fled the area, driving southbound on Highway 218.

A Nashua officer clocked Merrick's vehicle at 104 mph on the highway, the officer stopped the vehicle and saw the driver point a handgun at his head.

More law enforcement officers arrived, and tried to talk Merrick out of the car, but the driver fired a shot from inside the vehicle.

Officers approached, and found the driver unharmed.  

The driver resisted arrest, and drove the vehicle forward striking an officer.  

Two officers fired and struck the suspect.  The suspect was dead at the scene.
