2018’s Best & Worst States for Women

With March being Women’s History Month and campaigns against sexual harassment such as #MeToo and #TimesUp making national news in recent months, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2018’s Best & Worst States for Women.  To identify the most women-friendly states, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 23 key metrics. The data set ranges from median earnings for female workers to women’s preventive health care to female homicide rate. Woman-Friendliness of Iowa (1=Best, 25=Avg.):

  • 13th – Median Earnings for Female Workers (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
  • 9th – Unemployment Rate for Women
  • 16th – Share of Women in Poverty
  • 5th – High School Graduation Rate for Women
  • 19th – Share of Women Who Voted in 2016 Presidential Election
  • 6th – Female Uninsured Rate
  • 17th – Women’s Life Expectancy at Birth
  • 23rd – Quality of Women’s Hospitals
  • 22nd – Women’s Preventive Health Care
