New PlayStation Update Allows Parents To Boot Kids From Games

Parents that are trying limit the screentime of their children just got a new tool to help them control how long their kids can play video games. CNN reports that the latest update for Sony's PlayStation 4 video game console allows parents to set specific times in which their kids can be logged in. They can also set time limits, and when that limit is reached the user will be logged out, regardless of if they are playing a game or not.

US Gamer reports that parents will be able to edit the settings on the console itself or on their computer. They will also be able to monitor how long their kids have been playing. Kids will receive a warning notice so they can save their game before they are booted.

The large update adds more than just parental controls. According to Gamespot, the update adds new customization options for user profiles, reorganizes the game library, and improves graphics for people who are using lower resolution televisions.

Violent video games have been in the news following the high school shooting in Florida in February. President Trump called out the industry during a meeting on gun violence. He hosted leaders from the video game industry at the White House to discuss what can be done to decrease violence, especially amongst children and young adults.
