President Trump Agrees To Meet With North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un

South Korea's National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong said today that President Donald Trump has agreed to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un by May.

"He (Kim Jong Un) pledged that North Korea will refrain from any further nuclear missile tests," Chung said.

The announcement comes as one of the first major diplomatic breakthroughs with the reclusive nation.

Trump has expressed a willingness to talk with the North Korean dictator about denuclearizing the Korean peninsula, saying, "We'll see."

The scheduled talks come after a contencious year between the two leaders, during which the pair traded insults and threats, including a speech by Kim at the beginning of the year in which the dictator bragged about a 'nuclear button' on his table.

"The U.S. should know that the button for nuclear weapons is on my table," Kim said during a Jan. 1st speech. "The entire area of the U.S. mainland is within our nuclear strike range.

Trump hit back against the North Korean leader, tweeting, "Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"

President Trump, who has derisively referred to Kim as "Little Rocket Man," will be the first sitting American president to meet with a North Korean leader.

The last time the United States and North Korea sat down for talks was back in 2009. The six-party talks included several nations with the U.S., North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Russia and China as participants.

The meeting is schedule to happen by May.

This is a breaking news story, more details will be added when they become available.
