Popular Iowa state park closed for most of season

(MAQUOKETA, Iowa)   One of Iowa's most visited recreational areas, Maquoketa Caves State Park,  will be closed for all of spring and most of the summer season.  The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reports the campgrounds are getting an electrical upgrade and crews will be rebuilding the main road through the 370 acre park in east central Iowa. 

Park Closure date are Feb 5 through August 24 2018.  

Campground Renovation: The campground will be closed from April 1, 2018 through August 30, 2018.

The caves were also closed n in 2010 and 2011 due to a white nose syndrome affecting bats in the caves.
