(DES MOINES, Iowa)   Some central Iowans woke up to a lot of snow this (Saturday) morning.   Meteorologist Jim Lee of the National Weather Service in Des Moines tells WHO Rad News a narrow band dropped up to eight inches of snow on parts of northern Polk and Story Counties.

The Des Moines area recorded between trace amounts and two inches of snow.

Lee says it's the heavy wet variety, and as temperatures fall at night, drivers may encounter slick spots.

Heaviest snow totals:

Huxley & Slater:  8"

Sheldahl, Maxwell, & Cambridge:  7"

Alleman, Madrid, & Elkhart:  6"

Lee says the NWS Office in Johnston recorded less than two inches, the Des Moines International Airport received less than an inch.

Ames recorded less than two inches.

Temperatures Sunday are expected to be in the mid-to-upper 40s.  Southern Iowa could see 50-degree temperatures.   Temperatures are expected to be cool until the middle of next week.  Temperatures may hit 50-degrees by Thursday and Friday in the Des Moines area.
